The Greatest Dime Box Ever? Flea Market Round Up VII

Ah, living in Florida can be glorious sometimes friends. Baseball is everywhere you look this time of year and the weather is perfect. Also there's always plenty of flea markets to hit for the collector on a budget (me)

 I had to drop my wife off at a class yesterday and had some time to kill so I made the drive out to Oldsmar Flea Market and boy am I glad I did. The first vendor I stopped in to see if he had penny sleeves and pages and when he was pointing me in that direction I spotted a shoe box marked "10 CENTS"

The rest is history. 

Paper loss? I know what club Drysdale played for those years.

July Card Show with extra pigskin

So apparently there was some big card show in the midwest this weekend.. well I'm still in shock from the trade deadline. So i'll post some cards from my local monthly card show at the flea market.

Still mad at John Hart for trading this guy along with a top prospect for Hector Olivera $300K party bus!? This guy has ZERO MLB at bats... hope he works out as he's 30. Anyways I picked up 2 copies of this Wood card along with the rest of the Series 2 team set out of a 5/$1 box.

Switching subjects to something i'm actually excited about WHO'S READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!? Grabbed this mini of Julio another PC guy from my favorite local vendor who had a ton of new football stuff so I stocked up.

This purchase caused me to go out and buy a blaster box of 2015 Panini Contenders. Of course I got zero Falcons so it's a good thing I stocked up at the show.

My first cards of the 2015 first round pick, hopefully he can give us the pass rush we so desperately need. This was my biggest football purchase as far as volume of cards in a long time and I didn't even know Leaf was still making cards..

More Contender goodness, these of fourth round pick and the all time NCAA receptions record holder Justin Hardy. Hoping he can learn from Roddy and Julio and fill in for Harry Douglas.

Also got my first cards of 3rd round pick out of Indiana Tevin Coleman who should get plenty of looks in Kyle Shannahan's zone blocking system.

Only found one card of 2nd round pick Jalen Collins who could start, at least at nickel. A few other rookie cards here as well.

Sorry for going so Football heavy but had to pick up this insert of the Ice Man.

Matt needs to get us to playoffs this year in what looks to be another down year in the NFC South. 

Still my favorite player on the Falcons been there since the Vick days, Roddy might still get 1,000 yards this year.

Found a football nickel box and grabbed pretty much every Falcon I didn't have out of it. Can't get enough nickel cards, ever.

Told ya I got alot of football cards, that Gronk Camo is top notch. Decided that day i'm starting a Gronk PC. My favorite non-Falcon in the league right now.

I guess i'll post some baseball cards too, just bummed about the odd trade we made and pretty much waving the white flag losing six in a row before today...

Some parallels of the best defensive player in baseball and a refractor of maybe the second.

Lastly in that same box I grabbed all the Series 2 cards I found this Bowman Chrome without and Chrome or foil..are these rare or just a mistake?

Cards From Across the Border

Made my first trade with Douglas over at Sportscards From The Dollar for some cards off his Archives want list

In return he sent me some Archives I was looking for. Freddie Freeman your our only hope.

I don't have too many Ty Cobb cards and this one's a great shot. Frank Thomas looks huge in this photo another Georgia Peach. This was my first card of Jason Heyward in Cardinal red. Shelby's working out well in that trade I suppose...

Doug said he was sending some bonus cards, these white frames GQs are awesome, I love these framed parallels. Simmons looks like he needs the All Star break and hopefully we'll get our #3 hitter back not too long after that.

He also said he'd throw some Lightning cards in the package as well and did he ever. This super thick serial numbered Stamkos from Panini Prime looks like it was made to be autographed in gold ink, may have to give it a shot as they practice right down the street from my house.

This die cut looks awesome scanned, sometimes my scanner kills cards but this one really pops in digital form.

More Stammer, hopefully Stevie Y can lock him up for the future. I always liked Teddy Purcell who's now in Edmonton still being the same solid player.

A couple Bish cards for the collection here, it will be interesting to see what the Lightning do with Bishop's contract expiring after next year and Andrei Vasilevsky (20 y/o) waiting in the wings.

Unfortunately I don't have any of Andrei's cards to show here but I do have this awesome relic of the departed Brett Connolly Doug sent over.

These weren't even all the Bolts cards he packed in the mailer! Thanks for the memories and the lopsided trade you demanded to New York Marty, we've got Cally (and a Cup) thanks to you.

Another National Hockey Card Day card from a trade, the Pinnacle is in French as well and boy am I tempted to peel that Dino.

Doug didn't stop there though he made sure to hit all 3 teams I collect and sent over these 2 from '15 Score, I've bought two of the $5 50 packs from Target and gotten zero Falcons so these were much needed. If anybody I trade with collects football as well I have some cards for you I just sorted all my old football cards by team.

Thanks again for all the cards Doug, I will be getting something together for you when I get back from purgatory aka Fort Lauderdale.

Post: Not quite Kellogg's but still cereal cards

As a kid eating cereal was never about actually that - eating the cereal. It was all about the baseball cards hidden inside the box. I never got to complete a set back then but still have a few cards from the glory days when cereal came with baseball cards buried inside.

As you can see six year old me didn't take care of his Griffey cards too well. Looking back at all my Griffey cards they all have some bend or crease somewhere probably from me and all my friends passing them around in awe as we played this: 

My favorite player was Chipper Jones growing up in Atlanta but Griffey was close and being a kid I thought any card with Griffey was cool even base cards. Try telling an 8 year old a base card isn't cool. I'm sure we were drinking Surge and eating Hot Cheetos as well. Anyways here's the back of the card:

Suprised I didn't feed this card to my dog, the Phillies beat my Braves in the 1993 NLCS. I actually did destroy players cards I didn't like as a kid. I remember me and some friends burning a bunch of  Yankees cards after the '96 Series... Sorry Tim.

The Big Hurt, as a kid I never notice these cards didn't have logos but they are all shot where that fact is pretty unnoticeable.

This is one I've received recently through a trade, I never had good luck pulling Braves as a kid even out of cereal boxes.

I can't recall pulling these out of the box as I was only 4 years old at the time but these are still pretty cool looking cards and featured some future Hall of Famers.

Like this guy, I thought George Brett was a cheater as a kid from seeing the pine tar attack highlight so many times but now realize he was just an angry bastard.

Full career stats - gotta love it.

Same with Darryl Strawberry. I just remember the bad things like him getting busted for Cocaine.

Catching up

So,  new to this whole baseball card blogosphere catching up. 

Mail day in the first picture here, the Lemke I got out of a 25 cent junk pack at the flea market card show last weekend, a Big Papi minors card I found in my stack recently, Kimbrel I got auto'd this spring in Dunedin.. last time seeing him pitch for the Braves...

Also is it just me that can't get into the Donruss/Panini cards without the logos on the hats/jerseys..
