The Greatest Dime Box Ever? Flea Market Round Up VII

Ah, living in Florida can be glorious sometimes friends. Baseball is everywhere you look this time of year and the weather is perfect. Also there's always plenty of flea markets to hit for the collector on a budget (me)

 I had to drop my wife off at a class yesterday and had some time to kill so I made the drive out to Oldsmar Flea Market and boy am I glad I did. The first vendor I stopped in to see if he had penny sleeves and pages and when he was pointing me in that direction I spotted a shoe box marked "10 CENTS"

The rest is history. 

Paper loss? I know what club Drysdale played for those years. 

I didn't realize till I took a picture of this that it's signed!

The variety was crazy. This isn't everything either I grabbed something for most of you as well.

Sorry I'm letting the cards speak for themselves, I really have no words other than I think I got the deal of a lifetime. 

HSCA Trade Post

Recieved a PWE in the mail right after New Years from Brian at HSCA, marking my first trade package of the year.

As usual there was lots of good stuff inside with an extra vintage flair this time around. Including this 1960 Lee Maye that I needed.

In fact I think every card in this envelope was new to me. Jim Pisoni only appeared in 9 games for the club. Cecil Butler only pitched 31 innings in '62 with a 2.61 ERA then didn't pitch again until 1964 even he only made it thru 4.1 innings before the end of his major league career. So 2 short term stops but both much needed for my Topps team set project. 

I love manager cards, this is my first of Chuck Dressen. He hit .272 in 8 seasons at 3rd base with Cincinnati, won 2 pennants as the Dodgers manager and led the Braves to a 159-124 record in 2 seasons.

Always liked Grissom but I forgot how red hot he was in the '95 NLDS hitting .565 then hitting .360 in the World Series before catching the final out AKA the greatest moment in my sports fandom

Brian also sent these 2 gold medallion parallels from Fleer Ultra which I'd never seen. 

Closing it out with a few of the Falcons he sent over right as his Vikings are about to kick off against Seattle. Even though I watched AP roll over my Falcons in the Dome earlier this year, I'm rooting for you guys in this Ice Bowl that's about to start.

Card Show: Vintage, Minis and Bubblegum

Went to the card show with my daughter on Saturday and picked up a little bit of everything - $1 autos, quarter vintage, dime boxes, Pokemon cards, etc. 

Got this beat up '72 Lou Brock for a quarter because it looked well loved. It's beat up but I like it.

Couldn't turn down this '74 Dock Ellis card for 25 cents, in pretty good shape.

This '66 Mazeroski is a little banged up but had to get it of the 1960 World Series Hero

Didn't have any cards of The Big Train so I picked this one up. Love the magazine cover look.

My first '58 Topps of  Bob "Hawk" Taylor, why don't ballplayers have cool nicknames anymore? Their all just First name initial/shortened last name: J-Hey, JUP, MadBum, Cutch... boring.

Had to grab this pair of '68 Bravos, even though i'm not a big fan of the '68 design.

The guy I bought the vintage from had quarter wax packs too and I picked up a '88 Topps just because it's the year I was born and it HAD GUM INSIDE. Should I eat it, looks like a nice black mold spot there on the bottom. It was fun peeling this open even if the cards were no good.

At least the pack had a Hall of Famer, the other guys I didn't even recognize.

I don't really like minis (hard to store) but had to get these for 5/$1

These are minis too, another Wisler whoo!

I know it's only June but it's nice to look at this card and see we got 3 of San Diego's top 5 Prospects plus Cameron Maybin for a rental and a closer (even if he is the best closer in the game)

These aren't mins but fit in nicely being prospects we got from San Diego. Matt Wisler's MLB stat line 8IP 1ER 0BB, not bad for his first start.

Chopped Up: Brick O' Cards

Steve over at The Card Chop told me he had some Braves to send me when he got back from vacation. A couple weeks later this showed up in my mailbox:

I have mentioned on this blog before that I don't have very many cards from before I was born (1988) and posted about the few recent vintage purchases I have made to start collecting older cards.  Steve jump started that big time as seen above in the main picture. 

1960 Carl Willey. I had one '60 Topps so this doubled my collection. The 1958 Rookie of the Year

My first '61 Topps - Mr. Nottebart would go on to pitch to a 3.65 ERA over a 9 year career including a stop as a Houston Colt .45. Speaking of which I need to get some of  those old .45's cards

Yes those are '75 Topps minis you see in the big picture up top. These are awesome, crazy colors and the great Braves throwbacks in old Fulton County Stadium, well at least the Robinson is. 

Another mini this one featuring a Hall of Famer.

I've mentioned Topps overuse of the gray Niekro before but this one seems appropriate.

Steve sent plenty of newer cards as well but there's so many good one i'm going to split it up by era. Thanks so much Steve enjoy your summer hiatus I will be working on a return package for you.
