As is every Saturday I woke up and asked my brain what it wanted to do. Well my brain is rather predictable and I ended up at the flea market as per usual and found myself on the garage sale aisle.
Where I saw this '61 Spahn staring at me from its glass case prison amongst Penthouse magazines, cigar boxes and old zippo lighters. I asked the gentleman how much and got nervous when he reached for his dusty Beckett behind him...
I acted quickly and picked up this well loved '53 Mathews and he put the book down and started to tell me stories about Eddie. We talked for a while about the Braves and other baseball legends and eventually he told me I could have both for $8. Which for me was plenty fair for my first vintage Spahn and this fine piece of art
Moving further down the garage sale aisle, which I don't usually go down, I found a large box marked 5/$1 which I began to pick thru and plucked this trio of O-Pee-Chees.
Also grabbed the Braves big three but in the wrong uniforms out of those same boxes. The Glavine is a refractor and the Smoltz just looks wrong to me.
Also snagged these 3, the Konerko is up for grabs if anyone wants it. I always thought he was a White Sock for life. The Kevin Brown cards were just too goofy to leave behind.
What's the point of a Flea market if you don't pick up a couple of oddballs. These 2 are up for trade as well.
Ooooh shiny, that Neagle is blinding.
Keeping this one short like my trip to the flea market this week, I'll close it out with a couple die cut Chippers I picked up from those same five for one boxes.
RIP Monte, pulled this from a pack back in July.
I've had the itch to go to a flea market for a while now; unfortunately, being a Chicagoan in January without any such places located indoors makes that rather difficult. Nice finds - especially the Metal Universes. So much 90's on one cardboard rectangle.
ReplyDeleteI'm blessed to have 3 big ones with cards within an hour of the house.
Delete'61 Spahn and '53 Mathews...for $8?! Seriously?!?!?!?!?
ReplyDeleteYeah I was definitely glad he put that Beckett down.
DeleteI'm with Nick -- that's a great price for those two cards. Great pickups!
ReplyDeleteThat is a good bargain. It pays to be friendly!
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of the shiny Showcase cards like the Neagle.
I had never seen one before this, is it a parallel? Either way I'm a fan
DeleteHmmm... the distraction technique. I like it. Those two vintage cards are amazing.
